Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center, which began from the 1993 Daejeon World Expo, has closed by the end of 2018. Due to facilities worn out from time, and the exhibition space being smaller compared to the recent ones constructed in other cities, it is to be rebuilt, with its completion targeted for 2021.
In 1993, when Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center started operating, its first events were the “APEC Techno-Mart Tech Exhibitions and Sessions” and the “Economic Exhibition for the 50th Year from Korean Independence.” Later on, such events as “Venture National Defense Mart 2001,” “Korea Construction Equipment Exhibition,” “Inventions and Patents Exhibition,” “World Technopolis Association Techno-Mart,” “Expo Furniture Exhibition,” and more were held in Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center in various formats, from industrial and economic exhibitions to enterprise seminars and concerts.
Recently, the most famous of the events that opened in Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center was the “Daejeon International Wine & Spirits Fair.” This event takes place every summer, providing guests with the opportunity to sample thousands of various wines from all over the globe. With the wine exhibition, there is the “Asia Wine Trophy,” a professional wine competition show, and the “Asia Wine Conference,” an educational event open for all wine enthusiasts.
Outside of that, full-scale events that represent “Fourth Industrial Revolution City, Daejeon” have been conducted in Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center such as the “Defense Industry Fair” and the “Robot Fusion Festival.”
Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center was born from the success of the 1993 Daejeon World Expo, and the center itself has hosted many other successful events. Now, to take a new leap in becoming the MICE herb of Central Korea, it will come back with a new name—“Daejeon International Exhibition Convention Center.”
