2018 Successful convention attractions to Daejeon


The first half of year 2018 has been a prosperous one for Daejeon’s MICE. Many valuable academic events have been attracted into Daejeon, improving its brand as Korea’s best destination for science conventions.

The first breakthrough, Daejeon has confirmed the hosting of ‘2020 ASIACRYPT’ conference. ASIACRYPT is one of the world’s top 3 cryptology conferences, where over 300 cryptology experts meet up to exchange consecutive progress on information security and cryptology technology.

Next is the BEBRAS 2020, ‘World Beaver Challenge Conference’. BEBRAS is a contest on computational thinking for young students worldwide, with over 1.3 million participants. Started in Europe 2004, it now is a representative event for assessing the effect of coding education. Daejeon will be holding the BEBRAS workshop prior to the main event, where coding challenges are made and reviewed.

On May 14th, Daejeon Int’l Marketing Enterprise(DIME) successfully invited CAV 2021, ‘International Symposium on Cavitation’ into Daejeon. This is especially meaningful, for the triumph Daejeon had in the competition with Beijing and Shanghai, China. It will be the first time for the CAV symposium to be held in Korea.

In the Bangkok Asia Water Council(AWC) held from May 24th to 26th, Daejeon was announced as the destination of the ‘7th AWC Board of Council(BoC) meeting’. AWC is a consultative group for water issues of Asia, made of 130 organizations including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNESCO, private enterprises. and NGOs. The 7th AWC BoC meeting will take place from 2018 September 10th to 11th. Over 200 officials from international organizations and water policy makers in Asia are to gather in Daejeon Convention Center for this meeting.

As the lastest success, the World Wide Web has approved Daejeon’s hosting of ‘2019 International Conference on Web Engineering(ICWE)’, a conference purposed to deal with the emerging problems in the engineering of web applications. In the 2018 meeting called in Spain, DIME cooperated with Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST) to confirm the hosting, furthering Daejeon’s capabilities in hosting IT events.

Meanwhile, DIME has more competitions for international conferences up front on the next half of 2018. DIME will continue its work on expanding its capabilities in accommodation, transportation, catering, and tour attractions to meet the expectations of international delegation teams.
